  1. International Holocaust Remember Day is observed on 27 January every year. 2022 theme: “Memory, Dignity and Justice”.
  2. The International Customs Day (ICD) is observed on 26 January every year. This year, the theme for ICD is ‘Scaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem’.
  3. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host the first-ever India-Central Asia Summit virtually on January 27, 2022. The summit will be held between India and five central Asian nations-Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
  4. Union Minister of State for Culture Meenakshi Lekhi released a pictorial book on ‘India’s Women Unsung Heroes of Struggle’, as part of Azadi ka Mahotsav, in New Delhi on 27 Jan 2022.
  5. Drones developed by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati start-up Drones Tech Lab performed a drone show at the Republic-Day event in Kamrup,Assam.
  6. South Maubuang in Aibawk block of Aizawl district in Mizoram has been declared a model ODF (open defecation free) Plus village.
  7. Ramgarh Vishdhari Wildlife Sanctuary, which is among the proposed five sites in the country, is expected to be formally notified as tiger reserve (TR) soon before the Global Tiger Summit, which is to be held at Vladivostok, Russia.
  8. The Government of India successfully handed over Air India to the Tata Group on January 27, 2022, nearly 69 years after it was taken from the TATAs. 
  9. Tata Motors has extended its partnership with the Tata Open Maharashtra tennis tournament for the fourth year and will be the title sponsor for 2022.
  10. A 20-day joint military exercise Paschim Lehar (XPL-2022), aimed at synergy I warfare involving assets of the Indian Navy, Air Force and Army was carried out off the western coast in the Arabian Sea.

The Peruvian government declared a 90-day “environmental emergency” in damaged coastal territories, after an oil spill that saw 6,000 barrels of crude oil pour into the sea caused by freak waves from a volcanic eruption in the South Pacific. A tanker of Repsol, a Spanish Energy firm, was transporting oil to Vantinalla refinery in Peru.
